Lucy Porter: Choose Your Battles - Preview

February 02, 2018 - July 14, 2018 | UK Tour

Heading from your TV screen to a theatre near you, Lucy Porter is set to embark on a national tour with her smash hit Edinburgh Fringe show Choose Your Battles from 2nd February 2018.

Have you ever wished you’d told that awful boss where to stick that lousy job? Dumped an ex before they dumped you? Not backed down when someone nicked your parking space? Life is full of arguments we wish we’d had, or wish we’d won, but it’s also common to regret confrontation.

As someone with a lifelong fear of making a scene, Lucy Porter has always erred on the side of caution when it comes to conflict. When she was a single, self-employed, stand-up comedian, it was never that much of a problem as she spent 99% of her time alone. Now that Lucy’s a wife, mother and pillar of the local community, she is finding it a lot tougher. In marriage guidance and parenting manuals, the received wisdom is that you should choose your battles and not sweat the small stuff, but how do you know when to stand your ground?

For example, if a child refuses to go to a wedding unless they can dress as The Incredible Hulk, what should you do? Lucy decided to take the path of least resistance, only to be faced with a tearful bride and a bill for ruined wedding photos.

Using secret ballots, visual aids and a punchbag with the face of Mary Berry, Lucy works out (with the audience’s help) when she should stick to her guns and fight, and when she can use her disarming charm to defuse a situation.

Lucy is a comedy hit across the globe, taking her distinctive, bouncy, feel-good comedy to Hong Kong, Manila, Switzerland, Paris and the USA. Back home, she has toured the UK multiple times to critical acclaim and played some of the country’s biggest festivals including Latitude and Kilkenny.

Lucy is a regular face on TV, having appeared on QI, Mock the Week, Argumental, Insert Name Here, Have I Got News for You, Clive Anderson’s Chat Room, Never Mind the Buzzcocks, What the Dickens?, Room 101, Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled, Pointless, The Chase, Celebrity Mastermind, and Celebrity Storage Hunters. On radio, she has been heard on Life – An Idiot’s Guide, Heresy, The Personality Test, The News Quiz, Dilemma, The Unbelievable Truth, and The Radcliffe & Maconie Show. Lucy is also an accomplished actor having played Nurse Flinn in the critically acclaimed, box-office record breaking One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest in Edinburgh and London’s West End, alongside Christian Slater.
