The next production for double award-winning theatre company Gorleston Theatre Company is Ladies in Lavender, a play based on the hit film starring Judi Dench and Maggie Smith, written by Charles Dance, and the original short story by William J. Locke.
Taking place in pre-war England, Ladies in Lavender tells the tale of aging sisters Ursula and Janet Widdington, who live peacefully in their cottage in a close-knit fishing village on the shores of Cornwall, in 1937. One morning following a violent storm, a handsome and talented young Polish violinist bound for America is washed ashore, and the Widdington sisters take him under their wing and nurse him back to health. However, the presence of the mysterious young man disrupts their peaceful lives and the community in which they live…
“It is an evocative, heart-warming story of unfulfilled dreams and unrequited love,” says director Jeannie Kinkaid, “but it is also, at times, quite funny. This is a play not to be missed.”
