Towards Zero

The European theatrical premiere of Agatha Christie’s Towards Zero will take place later this month in Norwich, when the show is performed from Friday 21st to Saturday 29th June 2019 at the Maddermarket Theatre by amateur group The Norwich Players.

This new production is based on a rare script written by the Queen of Crime herself, discovered amongst in a pile of dusty old papers in Christie’s archives in 2015 by Julius Green, author of Curtain Up: Agatha Christie – A Life In Theatre. Produced in America in 1945, and then more recently in New Zealand, the Norwich Players’ latest production is believed to be only the third ever staging of the play, and marks the first time the play has been performed in Europe.

When Lady Tressilian invites her ward Neville Strange for a long weekend at her seaside home, she’s surprised to discover he’s bringing both his old flame Audrey and his current wife Kay.  The atmosphere turns from awkward to decidedly deadly when a brutal murder interrupts the house party. The group must unravel a mystery that will draw them into the dark psychology of jealousy and revenge…

A psychological thriller, the play probes narcissism and jealousy in the shadow of a savage and brutal murder. With reflections on love won and love lost, the play is a layered drama of piercing intelligence. This version of the nail-biting thriller was adapted for the stage by Agatha Christie in 1945, based on one of her finest novels. The intricate plot should delight all Christie fans.

Towards Zero runs from Friday 21st until Saturday 28th June at the Maddermarket Theatre, St John’s Alley, Norwich.
