This month sees NOR-CON, Norfolk’s very own TV, film and comic con, return to the Norfolk Showground for its ninth year, featuring celebrity guest stars from Doctor Who, Torchwood, Star Wars, Red Dwarf and more.
Attendees of all ages are invited to come dressed in their best cosplay outfits, with prizes up for grabs in the annual NOR-CON cosplay contest. Throughout the two-day event, comic, film and TV fans will be able to enjoy a fantastic mix of exhibits, celebrity appearances, stage talks, photo opportunities and a multitude of traders selling memorabilia and merchandise from every corner of the galaxy.
Among the line-up of celebrity guests for 2019 are Torchwood’s Eve Myles (Gwen Cooper), Gareth David Lloyd (Ianto Jones) and Kai Owen (Rhys Williams); Doctor Who legends Peter Davison (the Fifth Doctor), Sylvester McCoy (the Seventh Doctor), Sophie Aldred (Ace) and Nicola Bryant (Peri Brown); and Red Dwarf stars Chris Barrie (Arnold J Rimmer) and Hattie Hayridge (Holly).
Also attending are: Overwatch star Cara Theobold (Tracer), Star Wars actor Kenneth Colley (Admiral Piett), and 90s TV legend Michael Van Wijk, best known as Wolf from Gladiators.
Photo opportunities throughout the weekend include the chance to pose with some of film and TV’s most recognisable vehicles including the Back to the Future DeLorean, KITT from Knight Rider, the A-Team van (complete with a Mr T lookalike) and a fan-built replica of the Spinner from Blade Runner.
NOR-CON also includes the Artist Alley where some of the most talented comic book artists will be appearing and sketching live. Artists include Martin Griffiths who has worked on titles including Transformers and Thundercats, Lee Townsend whose work includes Marvel and DC, and Nigel Parkinson, the official cartoonist of The Beano’s Dennis the Menace, Bash Street Kids, Bananaman, Roger the Dodger and many more.
Event organiser Mark Dean said, “We are so excited about the brilliant line-up for this year’s NOR-CON, which includes some of TV and film’s best loved personalities and characters. We are delighted to be celebrating our ninth year here in Norfolk and we’re very proud of our reputation as the friendliest comic con on Earth. NOR-CON 2019 promises a whole weekend of wonderful cosplay, celebrity guests, traders and stage talks which are out of this world – come along and soak up the geeky goodness!”
Established in 2009, NOR-CON has grown from just 370 visitors to become the region’s premier geek-fest with an expected 8,000 visitors over the two days. NOR-CON was recently voted one of the top 10 Comic Cons in the UK by The List, the guide to arts and entertainment in the UK. SciFi Now magazine has described it as the ‘friendliest convention on Earth’.
NOR-CON is taking place on 28th and 29th September 2019 at Norfolk Showground.
